We’re more than happy to welcome you to the official website of Advanced RPG Guides and tell you all about the great things you’ll be able to access. Although our biggest focus is putting RPG guidebooks with specific subjects and detailed explanations of both basic and advanced RPG concepts, there is still plenty of great content you’ll be able to find on our website and on our social media.
Let’s go into a bit more detail about what exactly we’re all about and things you’ll be able to get if you decide to follow us.
What is the Mission Behind Advanced RPG Guides?
It’s important that you know who we are and that’s a group of like-minded individuals with similar experiences and passions and because those similarities mainly revolve around playing tabletop role-playing games, we consider the amalgamation of our knowledge to cover enough ground and make us a good authority on TTRPGs.
You’ve likely noticed the name starts with ‘advanced’ but that doesn’t necessarily mean we’re only here to help more seasoned players. In fact, one of our primary motives for this project is to help people who are just getting into TTRPGs by giving all sorts of useful advice, from how the rules work to tabletop etiquette, all in the hope of helping you get a good experience and hopefully falling in love with it as much as we are.
We will put out books periodically, covering specific aspects of the niche. In each of these books, we will go into as much detail as humanly possible and more (what, we didn’t mention we have an alien on staff?) and try to help you understand concepts from the ground up. We’ll do so by deconstructing ideas, helping you understand the logic behind game design decisions, but also other aspects, like advice on storytelling, worldbuilding, character creation, and much, much more.
This Is Not Just a Simple Guide To Tabletop RPGs
As much as RPG guidebooks are fun, we feel that there is a lot more our team can offer. We’ve all experienced TTRPGs in one way or another and have played different games and modules and homebrew stuff and we feel like we can offer a unique perspective on different issues that arise during the gameplay and outside of it.
As for the content that you’ll be able to access through the website, we’ll keep a steady schedule of blog posts where you’ll be able to learn about some specific parts of role-playing games but also find some entertainment in the form of short stories which recount our crazy experiences at the table.
While we’re on the topic of wild things happening at the table, we have to mention that we’ll also give new players some advice on how to behave during the game. Truth be told, we hope to help even more advanced players because, at its core, any role-playing game requires a gentle touch of manners and demands cooperation in order to run smoothly and be fun for everyone.
One thing that we’re especially proud to bring to you is the free content that you can use in your game if you need something on the fly. We’ll give you some player characters to use for a one-shot or as an introductory character for a newbie, and we’ll also put out NPCs and villains. These aren’t the only free content, as we’ll look to give you some dungeons, maps, magical items, and plenty more.
Seeing how all members of our crew are pretty much stuck in the “forever GM” role, we’ve had plenty of experiences with rules and rules interpretations, and that’s something that we will post about. Some players prefer to use rules as written (RAW), while others will delve slightly deeper and try to figure out the intentions behind the rule – rule as intended (RAI). There’s also a significant part of the community who just looks for fun and will use a ruling called rules as fun (RAF). Although we won’t always be able to give you a tiebreaker with your resident rules lawyer, we will always try to give you reasons why you should interpret the rule in one way or another, leaving you, the game master, better informed about the type of game you want to run.
One of the more exciting things we’ll be writing in the blog is going to be some of your suggestions and questions. We’re going to write about some really specific stuff that you ask us about or that we find particularly interesting to explore in the context of a tabletop RPG. If you’re interested in how to play Yoda in a swords-and-sorcery D&D setting, let us know, and we’ll give you all the help you need. Fun, you’ll be having.
Finally, if you want to get further in touch with us and ask us about those specific things you would like to do, connect with us on Instagram @advanced.rpgs. Whichever way you choose to contact us, know that a professional guide to role-playing games will be there to answer all of your questions.
